Microsoft, LG promote Kinect on 3-D TV

Korean game-lovers will have a chance to experience Kinect on 3-D television at experience zones and Kinect tournaments operated as a joint effort between Microsoft Korea and LG Electronics, Microsoft said this week.

Kinect is new game device launched by Microsoft last year that requires no controllers, as an embedded sensor picks up the movements of the players.

Customers also can buy special Kinect bundles, which come with “Kinect Adventures” and “Dance Central,” at a discounted price of 300,000 won ($273) when they purchase an LG Cinema 3-D TV in the sizes 47 inches or 55 inches, Microsoft Korea said.

The regular price is 442,000 won for these two games together.

“This strategic alliance with LG Electrics will offer consumers the ultimate home entertainment experience with Kinect and LG Cinema 3-D TVs,” said Song Jin-ho, director of Microsoft Korea’s Entertainment & Devices Division. “We’re looking forward to bringing consumers great entertainment through LG Cinema 3-D TV and Kinect, which will also provide video and voice functions.”

Microsoft and LG Electronics last May signed an MOU for jointly promote their brands through collaborative promotional activities, company officials said.

Starting today, LG Electronics will be hosting a 3-D game festival in further moves to promote its 3-D TVs.

The festival will kick off for a two-day run at a special exhibition hall set up at Lotte World, with well-known video and online game-developers such as Blizzard, NCsoft and Microsoft taking part.

LG in February introduced its latest line of 3-D televisions with a new technology involving the use of film-type patterned retarders for reducing side-effects such as flickering and crosswalk consumers had frequently complained of.
