Park and Jang, along with children’s TV entertainers Jin Ji-hee and Wang Seok-hyun, will be making “a big contribution to promoting” the two-day summit that will open on March 26 next year, the ministry said in a statement.

Leaders from some 50 countries, including the U.S., China, Britain, Japan and Russia, will be attending the summit.

Park, known by her English name Lena, will be singing a PR song for the summit, according to the ministry.

In the appointment ceremony at the ministry Thursday, Park said she hoped to “learn about the importance of nuclear security together with the people” and “sing for the sake of a peaceful, safe world” as an honorary envoy.

High on the agenda of the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit will be ways of protecting radioactive materials worldwide from terrorists who could use them to make crude nuclear bombs.
