JYJ named publicity envoy for 2014 Incheon Asian Games

South Korea's pop group JYJ will be appointed as publicity ambassador for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, the event's organizing committee said Tuesday.

"We picked JYJ, a K-pop group gaining Asian-wide popularity, as our publicity ambassador to step up our efforts to increase people's awareness of the event and for its publicity in the Asian region," the committee said.

The three-member boy band drew an audience of 210,000 people in total on a global concert tour that took the group to 15 big cities across the country from 2011 to 2012.

"We hope JYJ's international fame will help increase Asian people's awareness of the Incheon Asian Games and make the event a success," Kim Young-soo, the president of the organizing committee, said.

A ceremony to appoint the band to the post will take place at a Seoul hotel on Wednesday.

The Incheon Asian Games, to be held from Sept. 19-Oct. 4, will bring together some 20,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries, with competition in 36 events. (Yonhap News)
