고려대학교 또 성추행 파문

고려대가 또다시 성추행 파문에 휩싸였다.

경찰은 1일, 19명의 여학생들을 성추행한 혐의로 고려대학교 재학생 A씨(25)을 조사하고 있다고 밝혔다.

A씨는 2011년부터 올해 3월까지 학교 강의실과 캠퍼스에서 피해 여학생들 몰래 민감한 사진들을 찍은 혐의를 받고 있다. 또한, 술에 취한 여학생 몇 명을 성폭행한 혐의까지 받고 있다.

A씨의 동료학생이자 친구가 A씨의 거주지에서 관련 동영상들과 사진들이 담겨있는 CD를 발견하고 이 사실들을 알게 되었으며, 이를 경찰에 신고했다. 고려대학교측은 사과문을 발표하고 A씨를 퇴학을 포함한 그 어떤 조치로든 엄중 처벌하겠다는 뜻을 피력했다.

고려대학교에는 지난 5월, 한교수가 몰래카메라로 여성들의 치마속을 촬영하는등 성추문에 휩싸인 끝에 사직한 적이 있다. 또, 고려대학교 의과대학 재학생들이 여행을 가 일부 남학생들이 한 여학생을 성폭행한 사건으로 인해 사회적 파장을 일으켰던 적이 있다.

한편 스포츠계 역시 성추행 사건으로 골치를 썩였는데, 오승우 (55) 대한민국 역도 국가대표 코치는 여자 선수를 마사지 해준다는 명목으로 등과 엉덩이를 성추행한 혐의를 받고 있다. 오코치는 이를 부인 했으나 대한역도협회는 이 사건의 조사가 끝날 때 까지 오코치의 훈련장 출입을 제한 시킨다고 밝혔다. (코리아 헤럴드 오규욱 기자/번역 정헌의 인턴 기자)

Sexual harassment cases defame top private univ.

The country’s leading private university is in hot water amid lingering charges of sexual abuse that have gravely defamed its reputation.

Police announced Wednesday that they were investigating a Korea University student for sexually harassing some 19 women, most of whom attend the same school.

The news came only months after the university fired a professor who was accused of sexual harassment and misconduct.

The 25-year-old male student, whose name was not revealed, is accused of secretly taking photos and videos of women at locations such as the campus grounds and lecture rooms between 2011 and March 2013.

He is also believed to have sexually assaulted intoxicated female students. The case first came to light after a friend of the suspect found a CD in his room containing images and videos of the women, and reported it to the university. The school filed a complaint with the police of Seongbuk-gu, northern Seoul.

Police have secured his computer hard disks and will soon question the student, who is currently taking time off from school for his compulsory military service.

The university apologized Wednesday to the female students and said it would no longer tolerate any form of sexual harassment.

“We’re considering severe punishment, including expulsion. We will decide following the police investigation,” an official from the school said.

The school in May fired a business professor for sexually harassing students. He also allegedly took photos of women in short skirts with a camera hidden in his wrist watch.

Two years ago, the school was also the target of public outrage after a group of its medical school students was charged for sexually assaulting one female student on a trip.

Meanwhile, the sports community is also mired in sexual harassment allegations lodged against a national weightlifting team coach. Oh Seung-woo, 55, is accused of sexually harassing female weightlifters while offering them massages after training. Oh denies the allegation.

The Korea Weightlifting Federation said it would bar him from entering the national training center while the case is under investigation.
