South Korea’s oldest active pro baseball manager Kim Euong-yong won his 1,500th victory on Saturday, becoming the first to pull off the landmark feat in the country’s pro baseball history, as his Hanwha Eagles beat the NC Dinos 4-2.

Kim, 73, started his Korean Baseball Organization managerial career with the predecessor of the Kia Tigers in 1983, leading the club to 1,164 wins until he left the team in 2000.

From 2001 to 2004, Kim headed the Samsung Lions and won 312 games before returning this year as manager for Hanwha.

Kim is in his 23rd season this year.

The second most-winning manager in the KBO is former SK Wyverns manager Kim Sung-keun with 1,234 victories.

He is now the manager for the Goyang Wonders, South Korea’s only independent baseball club with no league affiliation. (Yonhap News)
