Zookeeper attacked by tiger at Seoul Zoo dies
A zookeeper, who has been in critical condition for two weeks after a tiger attack at a local zoo, died Sunday, hospital officials said.
The 52-year-old, identified only by his surname, Shim, died at 2:24 a.m. at Ajou University hospital in Suwon, south of Seoul, officials said.
Shim had been in critical condition after he was bitten in the neck and back by a three-year-old Siberian male tiger after it escaped from its cage at Seoul Zoo on Nov. 24.
No one else was injured in the incident, as the tiger was forced back into its cage before reaching the area where visitors were. Police have been looking into how the tiger got out of its cage and into a corridor used by zookeepers.
The case has prompted calls for tightening safety checks and awareness at the zoo. (Yonhap news)
