Samsung Electronics to keep three-pronged business structure

Samsung Electronics decided to retain its current three business units and strengthen its camera business, officials said Wednesday.

They said the three main business units ― device solutions, home appliance, and IT and mobile ― remain intact, and will be continued to be led by CEOs Kwon Oh-hyun, Yoon Boo-keun and Shin Jong-kyun, respectively.

Because of last year’s major restructuring process in which Samsung Electronics split a division in charge of finished goods into mobile and consumer electronics units, and the high performance of the two this year, no major changes occurred at the tech giant this time, according to market watchers.

The tech firm also merged its digital imaging business into the mobile business unit in an aim to beef up competence in the camera market, the company said.

Among the newly established divisions is a system-on-chip department aimed at enhancing Samsung’s competitiveness in the memory business.

Samsung’s global B2B center will be run as a quasi-independent unit in charge of the business-to-business projects for finished goods.

Another Samsung subsidiary, Samsung Display, also conducted reorganization to integrate the OLED business and LCD business units into one. The business integration is seen as a move to focus more on the promising OLED business while trimming an unprofitable one.
