'기성용 조기 복귀 없다'

영국 프리미어리그 스완지시티의 미카엘 라우드루프 감독이 선덜랜드로 임대를 보낸 기성용의 조기 복귀 가능성을 일축했다.

영국의 온라인 매체들은 11일(한국시간) “라우드루프 감독이 기성용의 조기 복귀 방안을 검토했지만 결국 포기했다”고 보도했다.

팀내에서 12일 새벽 맨체스터 유나이티드와의 정규리그 원정 경기에서 2-0으로 완패하자 복귀 가능성이 힘을 얻고 있었는데 감독이 이를 부인한 것이다.

스완지팀은 현재 주전급 선수 7명이 크고 작은 부상으로 전력에 큰 차질을 빚고있다. 팬들도 지난해 9월 선덜랜드에 임대돼 좋은 활약을 펼치는 기성용의 모습을 보고싶어 하는것으로 알려졌다.

하지만 라우드럽 감독은 “그럴 수도 있고 아닐 수도 있다”면서도 “고려해야 할 부분이 많다. 조기 복귀는 기성용과 스완지시티 모두에게 도움이 되지 않을 것” 이라고 밝혔다고 외신들은 전했다.

그는 “기성용이 올 경우 벤치에 두는 경우가 생길 것이고, 그 상황에서 선덜랜드가 결승에 진출한다면 선수는 정신적으로 악영향을 받을 수밖에 없을 것"이라고 밝혔다.

당분간 기성용은 계속 선덜랜드 유니폼을 입을 것으로 보인다.

‘Ki Sung-yeung not to be recalled’

Manager Michael Laudrup of Swansea City, an English Premier League club, has decided not to recall Ki Sung-yeung from his loan to Sunderland back to Swansea, according to foreign media outlets.

“I think I couldn’t bring him back as it wouldn’t help either of us. He is playing there all the time so imagine I take him back and he plays sometimes or sits on the bench and they reach the final -- you can imagine mentally how that would affect the player,” Laudrup was quoted as saying.

Laudrup’s first-team squad has been badly hit with seven of his men injured ahead of the match with Manchester United, in which it lost 2-0. Swansea fans are calling for Ki to come back as the team has now gone seven games without a win this season to date.

Midfielder Ki played center-back when Swansea won the League Cup at Wembley last year but was surprisingly loaned after a falling-out with Laudrup at the end of last season.
