“Mr. Mr.” by K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation was picked as one of the 25 best songs of the year, the only one by an Asian group to make the list, the TIME magazine said Tuesday.
It is only halfway through the year, but “it‘s never too early to start rounding up the strongest tracks of 2014,” the magazine noted.
“Fans of K-pop juggernaut Girls‘ Generation won’t be disappointed by their latest dance-friendly single, and the addition of a scratchy electronic bass line and a hint of darkness should even attract listeners who don‘t dig their usual bubblegum sound,” said Lily Rothman, a contributor to the magazine.
“Mr. Mr.” is a title song on the group’s fourth EP album, released in February.
World-famous musicians such as Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson and Ariana Grande were added to the list, with their songs “Make It Look Good,” “Love Never Felt So Good” and “Problem,” respectively.
Last year, Girls’ Generation’s signature song “I Got a Boy” made the list of the top 10 songs of 2013, ranking fifth.
U.S. Billboard also chose the idol group as one of the top 10 K-pop girl groups everyone should know.
