The JW Marriott Dongdaemun is going green by implementing practices that reduce energy consumption, save unnecessary costs and improve air quality.

The hotel’s pursuit of green strategies has earned it the LEED certification, an international recognition of the environmental-friendliness of a building. Opened in February, the hotel seeks to impress guests not just with its luxurious design, but also with a cleaner environment.

To reduce harmful effects from construction materials, the hotel uses eco-friendly wallpaper, ceiling paints, glues and finishing materials. It operates an air purifier system for the entire hotel to make air circulation more efficient and keep the air clean. Every guestroom is equipped with an air filtration system that cleans the air by capturing allergens and pollution particles, and reduces odors.

The swimming pool uses an A-1 micron filter to clean the water every day without using chemicals. The hotel also reduces water consumption by 32 percent using the water saving system.

The hotel boasts a luxury design on the outside and inside.

Overlooking Heunginjimun, one of Seoul’s prominent historic and cultural landmarks, the hotel offers guests the best view of the heritage site. Inspired by the gate’s natural curves and lines, patterns, and colors, the hotel’s exterior is in harmony with the heritage site.

The luxury hotel has 170 guestrooms, including 15 suites; an indoor pool; a 24-hour fitness center; and a spa.

The hotel also features a grand ballroom equipped with a 55-inch-screen media wall and four small meeting rooms that cater to corporate events, training sessions and meetings.

Guests can embark on a culinary journey at signature restaurants and bars including the internationally acclaimed BLT Steak, the Griffin Bar and the buffet restaurant Tavolo 24. The steakhouse offers original signature items such as popovers, tuna tartare and select steaks.

The all-day buffet restaurant Tavolo 24 offers a variety of food prepared at a live cooking station. It provides Korean specialties, seafood selections, an extensive dessert buffet and a cupcake counter.

The hotel runs the boutique pastry shop Seoul Baking Company, which offers freshly baked pastries, Danishes and breads in the morning and sandwiches and salads that visitors can grab for lunch and dinner.
