Samsung tops consumer satisfaction survey in U.S.

Samsung Electronics said Sunday that it had topped a consumer satisfaction index survey in the U.S. for the second consecutive year.

In the survey, conducted by U.S. market researcher J.D. Power, the Seoul-based tech giant topped the list by scoring 871 points out of 1,000 in the category of 50-inch TVs or larger, and 856 in the category of TVs smaller than 50 inches.

Samsung, aiming to hold its lead in the U.S. large screen TV industry, expected that the results of the report would lead to robust sales of the firm’s TVs there.

“Samsung will continue rolling out various premium super ultrahigh-definition TV lineups this year to better cater to the tastes of consumers,” said Kim Moon-soo, executive vice president of Samsung’s visual display business in a press release.

In May, Samsung maintained its No.1 position in the U.S. TV market with its market share by sales standing at 34.1 percent.

The company also is the leader in the market segment for 65-inch TVs or larger and in the UHD TV market.

Samsung’s compatriot LG Electronics ranked third in the consumer satisfaction index for 50-inch or larger TVs with 857 points after California-based consumer electronics firm Vizio, which scored 867.

LG came second in the index for TVs smaller than 50 inches by earning 846 points, beating Vizio’s 834.

The consumer satisfaction report is based on the responses of 3,750 people who purchased TVs in the past 12 months ending May this year in the U.S.
