The Herald Philharmonic Orchestra, led by conductor Kim Bong-mee, is gearing up to inspire youth of today by performing as part of the upcoming 2015 Incheon Summer Festival next month.
The fifth annual festival, which will be held from Aug. 11-16 at the Incheon Culture & Arts Center, is a classical music festival that is specifically geared toward young children who are interested in learning and further developing their passions for the classical arts.
Selling out all its shows for the past two years, the festival has earned a reputation for its educational strides, not only offering young kids the opportunity to watch performances from respected local orchestras and operas, but also offering up simple to understand, musical explanations and analyses of each performance as a teaching opportunity for its audience members.
Looking to help break the common youthful notion that classical music is boring and difficult to understand, the Herald Philharmonic will be looking to uphold its motto of giving back to the community with dynamic and varietal music selections that can be enjoyed by all.
The orchestra’s new repertoire will feature a handful of popular opera arias from Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro),” Donizetti’s “William Tell,” Bizet’s “Carmen” and Verdi’s “Rigoletto” and “La Traviata.”
The upcoming concert will also highlight performances by soprano Kim Sung-hye, mezzosoprano Song Yoon-jin, tenor Suh Pil and baritone Lee Jung-geun.
The Herald Philharmonic is slated to perform on Aug. 12 at the Incheon Culture & Arts Center’s Main Concert Hall. For more information, visit
