S. Korea, U.S. fly 8 combat jets in show of force against N. Korea

Eight South Korean and U.S. fighter jets swept through the sky of South Korea on Saturday, simulating bombings of enemy targets in a show of force against North Korea's threats of additional military action, the South Korean military said.

Four F-16 fighter jets from the United States Forces Korea and four South Korean F-15K combat jets joined the overhead combat drill earlier in the day, an official from South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

"It was a flight aimed to show off the military might of South Korea and U.S.' combined air force power," the official said.

The exercise took a flight course which could alarm North Korea and shows the allies' resolute determination that any kind of North Korean provocation will not be tolerated on the peninsula, he said. (Yonhap)
