South Korean baseball club Kia Tigers said Wednesday they've signed two former major league pitchers.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has acquired right-handerHector Noesi and right-hander Zeke Spruill, both to one-year deals.
Noesi signed for US$1.7 million, becoming the second-highest paid foreign player in the KBO behind Esmil Rogers, a right-handed pitcher who got a $1.9 million deal from the Hanwha Eagles earlier Wednesday.
Noesi, 28, has a career major league record of 12-31 with a 5.30 ERA in 107 appearances, including 53 starts.
He appeared in 10 games for the Chicago White Sox this year.
In his minor league career, Noesi has gone 35-28 with a 3.17 ERA in 123 appearances, 98 of them starts. The Tigers said Noesican touch 96 miles per hour with his fastball and mix it with a changeup and a curve.
Spruill, 26, signed for $700,000. He has made 12 big league appearances, all of them in 2013 and 2014, with a 1-3 record and a 4.24 ERA. In the minors, he has gone 52-60 with a 3.86 ERA in 191 appearances, including 143 starts.
Spruill represented the United States at last month's Premier 12 tournament and pitched against South Korea in Group B action.
He tossed six shutout innings, allowing only three singles in a no-decision, as the United States prevailed 3-2 in 10 innings.
Last month, the Tigers said they will bring back infielder Brett Pill for his third KBO season at $900,000.
KBO teams can each carry three foreign players and at least one must be a position player. The expansion KT Wiz, which joined the KBO in 2015, are allowed to have four players from overseas in their first two seasons. (Yonhap)
