South Korea denounced North Korea's hydrogen bomb test Wednesday as a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions.
Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam made the remarks shortly after the North made an announcement claiming to have successfully tested a hydrogen bomb earlier in the day. It is North Korea's fourth test of a nuclear device.
"North Korea's provocation is in clear violation of Security Council resolutions and a serious challenge to international peace and security," he said during an emergency meeting of ministry officials.
President Park Geun-hye is scheduled to preside over a National Security Council meeting at 1:30 p.m. (local time). (Yonhap)
