The French carmaker Renault named Park Dong-hoon, the vice president of its Korean unit Renault Samsung Motors, as its new CEO, on Friday.
It is the first time in Renault Samsung’s 16-year-history -- since its inception in 2000 – that it will be led by a Korean CEO.
The current CEO Francois Provost has been promoted to Renault’s senior vice president of China operations. In addition, he will lead the Dongfeng Renault Automotive. Provost is also waiting for an approval of his seat in the board of directors at Renault.

Under leadership of Provost since 2011, Renault Samsung recovered its business by successfully launching and producing the SM3, new SM5, QM3, SM3 Z.E. electric vehicle and SM6. The carmaker has also begun producing Nissan Rogue SUVs for export to the U.S.
The new CEO of Renault Samsung Motors is a veteran in the imported car sector with 27 years of work experience. Park started his career in the automotive sector as sales head of Volvo cars at Hanjin E&C in 1989. He later served Volkswagen Korea as CEO between 2005 and 2012. He has been in charge of sales and marketing activities at Renault Samsung Motors since 2013.
