LTI Korea Translation Academy recruits new students

The Literature Translation Institute Korea’s Translation Academy is recruiting new students for its 2016 semester, which begins this September.

The academy offers two-year courses in the translation of Korean literary and cultural texts into English, French, German, Spanish and Russian. 

The programs feature comprehensive and in-depth training in literary translation, comprising some 9 to 15 hours of classes per week, as well as excursions that provide insight into Korean culture and history, talks with writers and practical and theoretical lessons that feature group debates and coursework.

Two courses, the fellowship course and the general course, are available. Fellowship applicants must be foreign nationals interested in translating Korean literature. The fellowship includes round-trip airfare, a 1.6 million won ($1,390) monthly stipend, visa and health insurance, assistance in finding housing and exemption of registration fees.

General applicants must be Koreans with a bachelor’s degree, irrespective of major, or foreigners residing in Korea. For general applicants, the registration fee for each year is 100,000 won, all of which will be used for the students.

Classes are held on weekdays between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for 12 weeks each semester, which lasts from September-December and March-June. Some six to eight applicants are admitted for each language section.

The academy is run by LTI Korea, a state-run center committed to promoting Korean literature worldwide. The LTI Korea receives applications until midnight, April 30.
