Monaco 1st to file implementation report on latest NK sanctions

Monaco has filed its implementation report for United Nations-led sanctions against North Korea for its nuclear test and other provocations, becoming the first member country to submit the action plan, sources said Wednesday.

The move came about a week before the deadline by which all member countries are required to submit their own guidelines on how to carry out the toughened sanctions adopted by the U.N. about three months ago.

Details, including what measures Monaco will take, have not been disclosed. It will take some time before its full version can be available, as the report should be translated into official languages, according to an informed source.

The U.N. Security Council adopted the 2270 Resolution in March in response to the North's fourth nuclear test in January followed by a long-range missile test in February. It is the fifth of its kind that aims to punish the North for its provocations and is regarded as the toughest ever.

Member countries are supposed to submit their own "implementation reports" within 90 days of its adoption detailing measures that they have taken and what actions they will carry out in the future with regards to the resolution. That would be around late this month or early next month.

South Korea is also working on its own action plan for the latest sanctions targeting the North. The Seoul government is expected to submit the report by the end of this month. (Yonhap)
