Choi scored 686 out of a possible 720 in the individual qualification round at the Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday (local time). Choi's score equaled the record set by fellow South Korean Ki Bo-bae at last year's Summer Universiade in Gwangju, 350 kilometers south of Seoul.

Ki, also in action in Turkey, finished second behind Choi with 682 in the qualification round. The third South Korean, Chang Hye-jin, was fourth with 677 points.

The three archers' combined score of 2,045 points was also a world record, seven points better than the previous mark by Ki, Choi and Kang Chae-young at the 2015 Summer Universiade.

The Olympic gold in women's individual archery has gone to a South Korean in seven of the past eight competitions. And since 1984, South Korean archers have captured 14 out of 15 gold medals in women's team and individual events. (Yonhap)
