Samsung Electro-Mechanics to supply dual-lens camera modules to Chinese partners

[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on July 22 that it would start to supply the first batch of its dual-lens camera modules to Chinese smartphone-makers in the July-September period.

“The company is currently working on installing the production facilities for the dual-lens camera modules at its global production factories,” said an executive from the firm in a conference call after announcing its earnings for the second quarter ending June on the day.

The Samsung Group affiliate did not unveil the details of its Chinese partners, but Xiaomi is said to be one of them.

The company logged 15.2 billion won (US$13.40 million) in operating profit and 1.62 trillion won in revenue in the second quarter, down 84 percent and up 0.9 percent on-year, respectively.

It cited the temporary cost for the restructuring and layoff process as the reason for the profit drop.

Despite the profit drop, the Korean firm’s share closed up 5.74 percent at 55,300 won on July 22.
