Korean Olympic football striker diagnosed with bruised ribs

South Korean Olympic football striker Suk Hyun-jun has been diagnosed with bruised ribs following a recent practice match ahead of the Rio de Janeiro Games, the sport's national governing body said Tuesday.

Suk's teammate, midfielder Lee Chan-dong, has a sprained right ankle, according to the Korea Football Association.

The two players were injured during an unofficial practice match against Iraq in Sao Paulo on Sunday (local time). Suk left the game early in the match, and Lee was replaced just before halftime, as South Korea lost 1-0.

South Korea have set up camp in Sao Paulo and will face Sweden on Friday there before flying to Salvador, the site of their first two Group C matches against Fiji and Germany.

Mexico, the 2012 Olympic champions, are the other Group C nation.

South Korea are making their eighth straight Olympic appearance.

The KFA said Suk and Lee were examined at a local hospital Monday. The national team physician, Yoon Young-gwon, is scheduled to arrive in Sao Paulo on Tuesday, and he will check on the two players again. (Yonhap)
