SK hynix said on a conference call on Oct. 25 that it will make an additional 1.5 trillion won investment this year.
The company said its investments madd until the third quarter add up to 4.5 trillion won.
The new funding planned in the fourth quarter will be used for, among other projects, the development of 1x-nanometer DRAM chip whose production is expected to start from the second quarter next year.
The letters x, y, z are used to indicate the scale of the chip technology with the three representing high-, mid-, and low-single digits, respectively.
The firm’s 1x is said to be the 18-nano DRAM chip.
