KBS 2TV series "Descendants of the Sun" received the top prize at the 21st Asian Television Awards (ATA), the network said Saturday.
The mega hit drama was named Best Drama Series at the award ceremony that took place at the Suntec Convention Center in Singapore on Friday evening.
The 16-episode drama was sensationally popular not only in Korea but also around Asia, especially in China. At one point, its viewership hit 38.8 percent on its home turf.

Its popularity made Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, the two actors who played the main characters, the darlings of Asian fans.
Its production format where all the episodes had been made before the show began airing became the talk of the town among industry insiders. Previously, a Korean TV series was produced episode by episode so that the storyline could be altered according to viewers' response.
The Asian Television Awards (ATA) started in 1999 in Singapore to hand out awards for television series in Asia in 41 categories. (Yonhap)
