Award-winning Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo will attend the Berlin International Film Festival to promote his film set to compete in the event next month, industry sources said Tuesday.
"On the Beach at Night Alone" was invited earlier this month to compete in the main competition category of the 69th edition of the festival slated for Feb. 9-18.
"The screening schedules for the film have yet to be fixed," a film industry official said, requesting not to be named. "We understand Hong will attend the festival when the movie is shown."
Sources say the film's lead actress Kim Min-hee, who reportedly is in a relationship with the director, will probably show up at the festival to promote the movie.

The two have not been seen in the public eye since last June when media reports on their extramarital relations emerged. Neither of them have officially confirmed the reports. They recently generated attention when they were spotted by media filming together at an unidentified location in downtown Seoul.
"On the Beach at Night Alone" is Hong's 19th feature film and third foray to Berlin after "Night and Day" (2008) and "Nobody's Daughter Haewon" (2013).
The latest film features actresses Kim and Song Seon-mi and actors Jung Jae-young and Kwon Hae-hyo, but details of the film remain unknown.
According to the Internet Movie Database, an online database of information related to films, television programs and video games, the film is about an actress wandering around a seaside town, pondering her relationship with a married man. But its international distributor Finecut refused to confirm the plot. (Yonhap)
