Social enterprise Jeonju Bibimppang expands business

Social enterprise Jeonju Bibimppang, which is popular among travelers and locals, has been expanding its business in regions since its establishment in 2013 to create job opportunities for social minorities and foster Jeonju city’s economic development.

Jeonju city is located in North Jeolla Province and is well-known for its signature bibimbap dish.

SK Innovation had provided funds for the social enterprise to set up its business, and currently offers various support in finance, management, marketing, public relations and so on, free of charge.

Last March, Jeonju Bibimppang opened a second store in Iksan city, North Jeolla Province, named “Farmer’s Bread” marking its first branch outside Jeonju city.

Daily earnings of Jeonju Bibimppang now reach about 6 million won ($5,557), a notable jump from 280,000 won a day when it first opened, the company said.

Along with the company’s growth, the number of social minorities, including the elderly and disabled, working at the company has grown from four people to 40.
