Earlier this year, SK Telecom’s innovative roaming service Baro won the best mobile technology breakthrough award in Asia at the 2019 Asian Mobile Awards.
The event, held as part of this year’s Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, is Asia’s most prestigious award for the mobile and telecommunication industry. It is hosted by the GSM Association, which runs the annual MWC.
The award recognized SKT’s efforts to improve the quality of communication and user convenience by integrating overseas and local data networks and offering both international and regional free voice calls.
Baro, launched in December last year, has accumulated over 3.5 million users in 10 months, with over 90 percent expressing willingness to continue using it. It has become the most preferred roaming service in South Korea.
By advertising this achievement, SK Telecom wanted to let the public know that its Baro service -- which made groundbreaking improvements in voice-roaming calls -- is internationally recognized.
The company also wished to convey that SK Telecom, a leading player in the 5G era, is making persistent efforts to improve the satisfaction of users toward its roaming services.
SKT launched the world’s first 5G roaming service on July 7 and intends to expand its 5G global roaming coverage to over 20 countries. These are part of its plans to become a leader in the 5G roaming business.
SKT’s efforts to shape South Korea’s new era through information and communication technology will continue as it has been contributing to a faster and wider network for the past 30 years.
We would like to thank The Korea Herald and its readers for the honor and privilege of receiving this award.
