SK chief’s wife files divorce countersuit, claims 42.3% of his stake in firm

Roh So-young, founder of Art Center Nabi and wife of SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, has filed a divorce countersuit against her husband, claiming a huge stake in the nation’s third-largest conglomerate.

She submitted her case to the Seoul Family Court on Wednesday afternoon, giving her first official consent to the divorce, local news outlets reported. She has sought the division of property, claiming 42.3 percent of Chey’s stake in the group’s holding unit SK Holdings.

Chey, currently 59, created a stir back in 2015 by sending a letter to a local newspaper, revealing the existence of his live-in girlfriend and illegitimate child. In 2017, he sought a divorce settlement but was turned down by Roh who said that she wanted to “maintain the family.”

They tied the knot in 1988 and have three children, but are said to have spent several years apart. Roh is the daughter of the former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo, who was in office from 1988 to 1993.
