At the awards ceremony, S-Oil gave a plaque and an award of 20 million won to Lt. Lee Sung-hee of Pohang Maritime Police Office, selected by the Korea Coast Guard and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare. Five other police officers received a plaque and 10 million won each.

Lt. Lee Sung-hee, who was selected as the top hero of the maritime police, rescued two people from a leisure boat drifting in the sea near breakwaters of Pohang Port in April. In July, Lee rescued nine people when a motorboat flooded in front of an observatory in Pohang Yeongildae Beach.
S-Oil has awarded marine police officers and supported their children’s scholarships since 2013 to encourage the officers working to protect Korea’s territorial sovereignty and people’s lives on the front line, the company said.
