Stellantis Korea has named Bang Sil as its new head, the global automaker’s Korean office announced Tuesday.

Bang will become the first Korean and female managing director of Stellantis Korea once the appointment takes effect Thursday. The Amsterdam-headquartered automaker established its Korean office in 2021.

The new chief has over 20 years of experience in the auto industry, covering areas such as public relations, marketing, sales and networking. She previously served as an executive at Renault Korea Motors and Volkswagen Korea.

Stellantis Korea has been struggling as its sales have continued to decrease in recent years. The company offers three brands -- Jeep, Peugeot and DS.

According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association, Jeep sold 4,512 units here last year, down 37 percent on year. Peugeot and DS sold 2,026 units and 153 units, up 3.1 percent and 73.9 percent on year, respectively.

“I will strengthen communication with not only the employees but also major stakeholders including dealers and customers,” said Bang.

“I will put the focus on strategies that can bolster Stellantis’ presence in the Korean market to try to leave a longer-lasting impression of our brand in the hearts of the customers.”
