Flynn also told the delegation during the meeting earlier Friday that he plans to tackle the North Korean nuclear issue as a "priority," South Korea's deputy National Security Advisor Cho Tae-yong told reporters.

Flynn, a retired three-star general and former Defense Intelligence Agency chief, was named earlier in the day to be Trump's first national security advisor.

The South's delegation has been on a visit to the U.S. on a mission to make sure the alliance between the two countries will remain firm under the Trump administration. (Yonhap)
