롯데 이인원 부회장 9월 미얀마 차관 접견

롯데그룹 이인원 부회장이 9월 초 미얀마 국가기획경제개발부 차관 방한 중 투자 확대 방안을 논의할 것으로 알려졌다. 이재혁 롯데칠성음료 대표도 동참할 것으로 보인다.

한 업계 관계자는 “미얀마 대표단은 롯데그룹과 만나 보다 더 적극적인 투자를 요청할 것으로 생각된다”고 전했다.

롯데그룹의 남다른 미얀마 사랑은 이미 잘 알려진 바 있다. 신동빈 회장은 2012년 신흥국가를 둘러보던 중 인구 5000만명에 풍부한 지하자원과 시장 개방 중인 미얀마의 성장 가능성에 주목하고 시장 선점에 나섰다. 이후 미얀마를 글로벌 사업의 전략적 요충지로 보고 호텔과 외식 사업에 적극 투자하고 있다.

미얀마는 최근 인기 관광지로 부상하면서 관광객을 수용하기 위한 호텔 수요가 증가하면서 한국기업에게도 새로운 기회가 되고 있다. 올해 5월 롯데호텔은 미얀마 경제수도 양곤에서 대우인터네셔널, 포스코건설과 공동으로 미얀마 호텔 착공식을 열었다. 총 2억 2000만 달러 규모의 대규모 호텔 인프라 조성사업에서 롯데호텔은 호텔 및 레지던스의 운영을 담당하게 된다.
롯데는 또한 글로벌 외식 기업 가운데 처음으로 미얀마에 진출했다. 롯데리아는 작년 4월 미얀마 양곤 최대 쇼핑몰인 정션스퀘어에 1호점을 오픈 하고, 이후 4개 매장을 추가로 오픈 했다. 롯데리아는 2016년까지 30개 매장을 열 계획이다.

롯데칠성음료는 올해 초 현지 음료 회사 MGS(Myanmar Golden Star) Beverages와 70대 30의 비율로 합작투자(JV)해 LOTTE-MGS Beverage를 설립했다. 합작 이후 설비투자를 통해 2개 공장의 생산 라인에 대한 대대적인 교체와 보수 작업을 진행했다.

신동빈 롯데그룹 회장은 이날 출범식에서 “무한 성장 잠재력을 가진 미얀마는 향후 롯데의 글로벌 사업을 위한 전략적 요충지가 될 것이다”라고 말했다.

레이 레이 테인 미얀마 국가기획경제개발부 차관

한편, 오는 9월 2일 방한하는 미얀마 대표단은 레이 레이 테인(Lei Lei Thein) 국가기획경제개발부 차관을 단장으로 샌드라 오 중앙은행 국장, 경제관련 부처 고위당국자로 짜였다. 이들은 미얀마 금융시장의 외국인 직접투자(FDI) 현황과 진출 기회, 투자 정책과 인센티브, 경제특구 투자 기회와 인센티브 등에 관해 상세한 투자 정보를 제공 할 예정이다.

The Myanmarese Economic Deputy Minister is expected to meet with Lotte Group’s vice chairman Lee In-won in early September when he visits here. The two are expected to discuss business opportunities centering on calls from Myanmar to Lotte to invest more in Myanmar’s food and hotel businesses, according to industry sources.

Lee Jae-hyuk, chief executive of Lotte Chilsung Beverage, a unit of Lotte Group, will also reportedly accompany the Lotte vice chairman to the meeting.

“We believe Myanmar’s delegation will request more investment from Lotte,” said one source close to the matter, declining to be identified.

Lotte Group has already shown keen interest in making inroads in Myanmar following chairman Shin Dong-bin’s visit to the nation in 2012. Shin saw the market to be full of opportunities thanks to the nation’s 52 million population, its abundant resources and its willingness to open, those close to Shin said.

Since then, the company has invested in a hotel and restaurant business in Myanmar, viewing the nation as a strategic point for its global business.

Lotte Hotel, the hospitality arm of Lotte Group, participated in a $220 million hotel project in Yangon this May, in partnership with Daewoo International and POSCO Engineering & Construction. Lotte Hotel will be in charge of running the hotel and residence while Daewoo will supervise the entire project and POSCO is responsible for the construction.

Sources said there will be more opportunities for Korean companies in Myanmar’s hotel business as the nation is seeing strong demand for hotels to accommodate a growing number of tourists in recent years.

The South Korean food giant also jumped into the nation’s restaurant market last April, by opening its fast-restaurant brand Lotteria in the country’s largest shopping center, Junction Square, in Yangon. As the first global restaurant company in the nation, it now runs four stores and is slated to open 30 more by 2016.

Lotte also launched joint venture Lotte-MGS Beverage this January, in partnership with Myanmar Golden Star in a bid to jump into the nation’s beverage market. Lotte Group and MGS invested a total of $81 million in the project in the ratio of seven and three. Following the merger, Lotte made an equipment investment to preplace and maintain production lines in the two factories.

“Myanmar will be Lotte Group‘s strategic point in its global business,” Shin said at the inauguration ceremony of the joint venture.

The Myanmarese delegation will include Lei Lei Thein, the Deputy-Minister for National Planning and Economic Development, and high-level officials from the Central Bank of Myanmar and economy-related ministries. They will seek to offer information to local companies and government officials on direct investment opportunities in Myanmar, the sources said.
