An expat from India is running an exhibition of photos she took in Korea on Geojedo in South Gyeongsang Province
Sampa Guhamajumdar’s exhibition, “Colors of Korea,” was first shown in her home country last year and attracted TV and press attention.
Excited by its success, she took her exhibition back to Korea.
“I have been mesmerized by Korean natural beauty,” said Guhamajumdar, who has lived in Korea with her husband since 2005.
The more than 70 photographs, which Guhamajumdar hopes might have helped encourage tourism to Korea, focus on Korean culture and history such as traditional buildings, temples and dances. There are some autumn landscapes, as well.
“I have also been hugely attracted by Korean traditional cultural events including Korean heritage which have also been an integral part of my photography throughout these years,” Guhamajumdar said.
She said that the exhibition in Kolkata got a warm response because Korea is still an unusual and unfamiliar subject for many Indians, with tourism to Korea still rare.
“We know Malaysia, we know China but we don’t know about Korea very much,” she said.
“And it is interesting because it is traditional and colorful and (Koreans share) a little bit of similarity with us.”
“Colors of Korea” is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. until Thursday at the DSME Okpo Center, on Geojedo, South Gyeongsang Province.
Guhamajumdar also has a website where you can see some of her photography at www.sampabeautifulworlld.com.
