미국에서 한 갤럭시 S3 사용자가 자신의 전화기가 갑자기 폭발했다는 글을 올려 삼성전자가 이에 관한 조사에 들어갔다.
이 사용자는 27일 (현지시간) 미국의 뉴스 공유 사이트인 ‘레딧 (Reddit)’ 에 글을 올려 충전 중이던 갤럭시 S3 단말기가 갑자기 폭발했다고 전했다. 그는 잠을 자던 도중 갑작스런 소음에 잠을 깼다며, 깨보니 단말기에 불이 붙어 있었다고 주장했다.
그는 “(폭발 당시) 사용했던 충전기와 배터리 모두 삼성 것이다”고 밝혔다.
삼성전자 측은 공식성명을 통해 “이번 논란에 대해 알고 있으며 문제의 제품을 수거해 조사에 착수해 결과가 나오는대로 구체적인 경위를 공개하겠다”고 밝혔다. 또한 삼성 측은 이번 사안을 “진지하게 받아들이고 있다”고 강조했다.
한편 삼성전자의 갤럭시 S3 제품은 지난해 아일랜드에서도 폭발사고와 관련된 적이 있었는데, 당시에는 조사 결과 소비자 과실로 인한 것으로 드러났다. (코리아헤럴드)

Samsung investigating ‘Galaxy S3 explosion’ case
Samsung Electronics Co. announced Tuesday it is investigating a Galaxy S3 user’s claim that his phone had exploded.
“We have picked up the device in question and launched an investigation. The details (of the investigation) will be revealed as soon as we have the results,” the South Korea-based tech firm said in an official statement. The company added that it is taking the issue “seriously.”
An unidentified person on Monday wrote a post on social news website Reddit that his Galaxy S3 smartphone had recently exploded.
The person claimed to have woken up in the middle of the night to a loud noise and saw that his phone had caught fire. He or she claimed that the battery and the charger that was used on the phone at the time of the explosion were “stock/Samsung” that came with the phone.
The person also asked other Reddit users if a legal case could be established on the incident.
Last year, the Galaxy S3 was involved in another explosion claim in Ireland.
An independent fire investigation service which probed the case concluded that the incident was caused by simple user negligence. It said the damage was likely to have been caused when the owner of the phone tried to dry the device by using a microwave oven.
