Two nameless islets near the famous Malaysian resort island of Langkawi were named after two famous holiday spots in Korea.
The two islands were named “Nami Island” and “Jara Island” after the spots, near Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, and in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, respectively, at a ceremony held by the Langkawi Development Authority and Nami Island Inc. on Monday.
The naming was part of Korean Culture Month held at the Oriental Village of the Malaysian island. It follows Malaysian Culture Month held on Korea’s Nami Island after the Malaysian and the Korean authorities to forge ties in tourism in May.
The Korean Culture Month will include a drawing workshop, Malaysian traditional performances, Korean food kiosks and cooking competitions.
The two parties have also launched a line of projects including “Nami Cruise” sailing the Indian Ocean. The zip wire facility, the most popular rides in the Korean resort island, will be transplanted to its Malaysian counterpart.
According to Naminara, the operator of Nami Island tourism, Korea will also have an island named “Langkawi” near Gapyeong.
