하이에나 일가의 사바나 설욕전이 보고된 바 있다. 이들 보복의 표적은 어린 하이에나를 죽인 수컷 표범이었다.
두 녀석이 기습해 이 표범의 살가죽을 벗겨놓았다.

한편 하이에나의 전형적인 공격 패턴을 담아낸 영상이 있다.
녀석이 표범을 힘으로 밀어붙여 기어이 고기를 갈취해내는 순간이다. 상대가 풀숲에 숨겨놓은 먹이였다.
