Economics professor Ahn Kook-shin has been appointed president of Chung-Ang University.
The university said Thursday that its board named 64-year-old Ahn as its 13th president as the incumbent President Park Bum-hoon offered to resign.

Ahn graduated with a major in economics from Seoul National University in 1969 and earned a doctoral degree in economics from University of Minnesota in 1982. In 1983 he joined the Chung-Ang faculty as an economics professor, served as dean of the school of political science and economics from 2005-2009 and then as vice president of the Chung-Ang Seoul campus from 2009-2010.
His off-campus career includes stints as president of the Korean Econometric Society and president of the Korean Economic Association. He has contributed many articles as a columnist for local daily newspapers.
His presidential term is two years in length and will begin on March 1.
