[Graphic News] Generational divide at impeachment rallies stronger among women

On Dec. 14 at 4 p.m., during the vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol, women from different age groups made the most prominent presence at rallies in Yeouido and Gwanghwamun, according to living population statistics analyzed by Yonhap News Agency.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government's living population statistics, developed in collaboration with KT, utilize public big data and telecommunications data to estimate the number of people in specific areas of Seoul at particular times.

At the Yeouido candlelight rally, an estimated 314,412 attendees gathered around the National Assembly and Yeouido Park. Women in their 20s formed the largest group, accounting for 17.52 percent, followed by women in their 30s (11.85 percent), men in their 50s (11.35 percent) and women in their 40s (10.62 percent).

In contrast, at the Gwanghwamun anti-impeachment rally, which attracted 22,023 attendees near Cheonggye Plaza and Seoul City Hall, women aged 70 and older constituted the largest demographic at 30.64 percent. They were followed by women in their 60s (20.32 percent), men aged 70 or older (16.42 percent) and women in their 50s (8.69 percent).
