[Weekender] Tips for party look: Go simple, but bold

How exactly do you look good in dimly lit dance clubs and stay fresh until the morning after? The Korea Herald took tips from local makeup and fashion celebrities on how to become a holiday queen.
The keywords for this season’s party look are ‘bold,’ ‘dramatic’ and ‘fancy’ (Pony Effect)

According to makeup guru Pony, who has recently launched her own brand Pony Effect, the key words for this season’s party makeup trends are “bold,” “dramatic” and “fancy.” Cosmetics brands have released vibrant shades of purple, red and blue for the season’s year-end holiday looks.

Pony Effect advises ladies keep the apparel simple and go bold with makeup instead. Shimmery pearl eye shadow in shades of purple, matte red and metallic blue are the latest leaders in pigmented cosmetic goods.

Match the sultry glittery eyes with natural Marsala pink lips, eye-catching crimson tints or seductive plum burgundy. Dewy, plump lips will prevent chapping and shine through the dark while matte lips will last longer.

Contouring the entire face shape with shading and highlighting is another aspect one cannot ignore. Celebrity DJ Soda called the fad “Coca-Cola bottle” makeup when appearing on the celebrity live-streaming app V. Not only is the curvy bottle applicable to describe body-lines, it now also refers to a well-embellished face.

Pony offered the tip to contour the face by shading the chin, hairline and the cheeks, then applying highlighter across the forehead and nose line, on the tip of the chin and below the eyebrows. She finished off the makeup by rolling round a powder brush over the face for a shiny and soft pearly sheen. Naturally blending the varying shades is crucial to create a smaller and more defined face, she said.

For first-timers who are unsure of all this, makeup experts advise focusing on either the eyes, lips or nails, and try matching colors they feel comfortable with.

As for what to wear to clubs, DJ Soda emphasized the need to confidently don body-hugging dresses, as any attempts to cover up pudginess with loose-fitting clothes will only make one appear bigger.
