Fatboy Slim, Porter Robinson to headline Global Gathering

The Global Gathering dance and electronica music event welcomes the scene’s most recognizable names every year. The first-round lineup of this year’s Korea concert, themed “Dance, Right Now,” will feature rave music superstar Fatboy Slim and American DJ and producer Porter Robinson.

Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, is a British DJ, rapper and music producer who has been a pioneer in the EDM scene since the ’80s. Cook first made a name for himself in the U.K. as the bassist for the rock band The Housemartins before eventually parting ways and reinventing himself under the stage name Fatboy Slim in 1996. The 50-year-old beat master has since produced hits such as “The Rockafeller Skank” and “Right Here Right Now.” The U.K.’s Q Magazine has ranked the artist on its “50 Bands to See Before You Die” list.

The second headline act at this year’s Global Gathering fest is 21-year-old up-and-comer Porter Robinson, who has been producing music since the tender age of 13. Representing the next generation of house music, Robinson has already made a name for himself as a DJ and talent to watch.

In 2011, Robinson signed a deal under one of house music’s most iconic global figures, Skrillex, and his label OWSLA. Under the deal, Robinson released the EP “Spitfire,” the label’s very first release, which reached the top spot on the iTunes Dance chart.

After first establishing itself in the U.K. in 2001, Global Gathering has now spread across world to locations including Russia, Australia, Poland, Ukraine, Turkey and Belarus and is internationally recognized as one of the world’s best dance music festivals.

This year marks the event’s fifth anniversary since Global Gathering first came to Korea. In its previous editions, the festival attracted big-time acts such as David Guetta, Prodigy, Underworld, Royksopp, Armin Van Buuren, Justice and many others.

Tickets can be purchased online at http://muv.co.kr and YES24 starting July 30. The festival will be held on Oct. 12. The venue has yet to be announced.
