Samsung, LG win int'l awards for key products

Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc., South Korea's top two tech firms, said Wednesday that they have garnered international awards for some of their latest home appliances, mobile devices and memory chips.

Samsung won the Best of Innovation award for a total of 38 products, including the most recently released Galaxy S6 Edge Plus smartphone and the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch. The titles were awarded by the U.S. Consumer Technology Association (CTA).

The winner of the innovation awards will present the products at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2016, one of the biggest home appliances exhibitions in the world held in the United States every year.

The show is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas in the second week of January.

Samsung has also won the award for SleepSense, its latest Internet-of-Things (IoT) item designed to enhance sleep through mobile monitoring.

Its 12-gigabit mobile DRAM, known as the low power double data rate 4 (LPDDR 4) and the 2-terabyte portable solid state drive T3 were also among the lineups that received the award.

LG said it won the same award for 21 products, a record number for the company, with mainly organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs and household appliances.

Its flagship washer, the Twin Wash, the world's first front-load washing machine that comes with another mini-drum in the pedestal, also received the innovation award. (Yonhap)
