LG Electronics rolls out white color edition of G4

South Korean handset maker LG Electronics Inc. said Wednesday it has added a white color edition to its flagship G4 smartphones series in the latest effort to bolster sales amid the ailing handset business.

The South Korean smartphone manufacturer said the new version of the G4 comes with a white cover with gold edges, adding it will appeal to female and younger consumers.

The slightly curved G4 has a 5.5-inch in-plane switching (IPS) QHD display. It has a 16-megapixel camera whose performance is equal to that of a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera.

The F1.8 aperture camera hovers above the aperture rate of 1.9 for Samsung's Galaxy S6 and 2.2 for Apple Inc.'s iPhone 6. A lower number indicates better performance in a dark environment.

The G4 also allows users to insert micro secure digital (SD) memory cards to expand data capacity, unlike the latest smartphones produced by its rival Samsung Electronics Co.

LG's mobile communications business, which covers smartphones, posted an operating loss of 77.6 billion won ($66.9 million) in the third quarter of the year, compared with an operating income of

200 million won in the second quarter.

It marked the first time for the business division to post a shortfall since the first quarter of 2014, when it posted an operating loss of 8.8 billion won. (Yonhap)
