LG to boast OLED supremacy at IFA

Tech firm to work with global broadcasters and content maker for next-gen TV tech

LG Electronics, a pioneer in the world‘s organic light-emitting diode TV market, will join hands with global broadcasting firms and media content providers to demonstrate high dynamic range technologies for OLED TVs.

The HDR improves the picture quality of TVs as it helps produce brighter, crisper and more detailed images.

Combined with LG’s OLED TVs, which deliver more vibrant colors than liquid crystal display TVs, the HDR technology will offer a great viewing experience for consumers, according to the Seoul-headquartered firm.

“LG has been spearheading the fast-changing multimedia industry by rolling out cutting-edge TV technology,” said Lee In-kyu, senior vice president of LG’s home entertainment company.

“The firm’s OLED TVs leveraging the HDR technology will allow consumers to enjoy superior visual content,” he added.

Collaborating with U.K. national TV network BBC and the European Broadcasting Union, an association of national broadcasters in the region, the Korean tech firm will showcase the transmission and reception tech for HDR content, which meets the next-generation broadcast standards called Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV 2.0, with European TV broadcasters at the IFA electronics trade show. The electronics event will be held from Sept. 4 to 9 in Berlin.

LG will also showcase satellite HDR broadcasting with ASTRA, which operates a fleet of 16 broadcasting satellites with 154 million households in Europe receiving satellite broadcasts from the satellite operator.

Network equipment maker Broadcom will also introduce a set-top box capable of handling HDR content at LG’s exhibition booth during the German trade show.
