Singapore invites students to apply for scholarship

The Singaporean Embassy is inviting qualified students to apply for a state-scholarship for 2015. Submissions are open until Feb. 23, 2015.

The Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship Fund supports up to four years of undergraduate study, provides funds for tuition and other fees, roundtrip airfare to Singapore, and a living allowance.

It was set up by the financial community in Singapore in honor of the country’s former deputy prime minister, who fostered Singapore’s economic development as an international financial center, the embassy said.

Administered by the Association of Banks in Singapore, the private sector scholarship is given each year to up to four outstanding individuals from 15 Asia-Pacific economies.

Students from Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar can be selected to pursue undergraduate studies at local universities in Singapore.

The students can attend the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University or Singapore University of Technology and Design.

Applicants with strong leadership ability and good academic and extracurricular achievements are invited to apply, the embassy said.

Successful candidates are required to work for three years upon completing their studies for either an approved company in Singapore or a Singapore-based company in their home country.
