Psy's 'Gentleman' jumps to 5th in main billboard chart

South Korean rapper Psy's "Gentleman" galloped to fifth place on the Billboard's main chart this week thanks to increased downloads and sales, its official magazine said Wednesday.

"K-Pop star PSY blasts into the Hot 100's top 10 with 'Gentleman,' which wins top Streaming and Digital Gainer honors following its first full week of availability," it said. "Gentleman" ranked 12th last week.

"Gentleman" bounded into the top 10 "fueled primarily by a 60% gain in streaming, as it tallies a second week at No. 1 on Streaming Songs with 13.9 million U.S. streams," said the online magazine, billboardbiz.com.

Increased streaming and sales over the past week added to the record-setting YouTube views of the song's music video. Released on April 13, it has drawn more than 200 million hits on the video-sharing site.

"Gentleman" also debuts at No. 20 on Hot Digital Songs with 72,000 downloads sold, a 167% improvement over its sum last week, according to the magazine.

The song, however, has a way to go for airplay.

"Without official radio promotion, 'Gentleman' is receiving only minimal airplay so far," it said.

Psy's new single follows his worldwide hit "Gangnam Style," which has totaled more than 1.6 billion views on YouTube.

"Gangnam" peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard chart for seven weeks last fall but failed to reach the top due to relatively little airplay.

"We expect 'Gentleman' to continue to rise in many charts if Psy makes full-scale efforts for the promotion of the song in the U.S. including appearance at local television networks," his management agency, YG Entertainment, said.

Meanwhile, P!nk remained at No. 1 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 with "Just Give Me a Reason." (Yonhap News)
