Hyatt’s Andaz to launch in Seoul

Andaz, a luxury boutique hotel brand under Hyatt, is set for its first launch in Korea.

The brand under the global hotel chain Hyatt plans to open its first hotel in Seoul by 2019, Hyatt Hotels Corp. announced Wednesday. A Hyatt affiliate has entered into agreements with Kt estate Inc. and Hotel HDC Co., Ltd. for the development of Andaz Gangnam.

The new boutique hotel will be situated near Apgujeong Station.

Andaz Gangnam is expected to have 241 guestrooms, a lobby lounge and an all-day restaurant. The upscale hotel will be designed to be “global in scale while local in perspective.

The hotel franchise projected Korea’s tourism industry would flourish, with 24.6 million passengers arriving at Incheon Airport in 2016, compared with 16.7 million in 2010.

David Udell, group president for Asia-Pacific, Hyatt Hotels Corp., described Seoul as an attractive destination, as it continues to grow into “a competitive city for global leisure and business travel.”

Four Andaz hotels have opened in Asia so far, in Shanghai, Singapore, Delhi and Tokyo, with 13 more around the globe.
