최근 ‘Zola’라는 이름의 바다표범이 ‘반짝, 반짝 작은 별’과 영화 ‘스타워즈’의 테마곡을 짖는 영상이 온라인상에서 큰 화제를 불러일으켰다.

바다표범은 음악에 맞춰 몸을 흔드는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 실제로 연구원들은 동물들이 얼마나 빨리 습득하고 따라 할 수 있는지 연구하기 위해 시작한 연구라고 한다.

동물들은 사람과 비교했을 때 상대적으로 언어습득 능력이 느리다고 한다. 이 때문에 꾸준한 음악 학습을 통해 자신의 소리를 익힌 뒤, 그 소리를 멜로디로 내기 위해서 훈련을 받는다고 한다.
